OBJECTIVE
Honor the historical memory, increasing the scientific connection of the Civil War to the lands of Lleida.
The State Cup of '36 will be the start of a civil war that, for 3 years, will affect Spanish and Catalan society. The civil population will suffer the penalties of a very harsh war: families in trenches, fam, bombardments, deaths, ferits, exile, repression... The republican defeat at the battle of l'Ebre will mean the fall of Catalonia. Subsequently, exile and repression marked a cruel beginning in Catalan lands.
Robert Capa is going to document the Republican offensive against Aitona on November 7, 1938. His goal is to further document the Segre Front in order to continue building the story of the Civil War to our opponents.
From the City Council of Aitona and the Institute of Ilerdenc Studies we close the tasks that construct this history and that contain possible names and values in the global story.
The Capa awards aim to visualize people, documents and works that contribute in this aspect, especially to the Segre Front of the Spanish Civil War.
The second objective is to honor the pioneering war photojournalist of the Thirties, Robert Capa, pseudonym of Ernö Friedmann. There is a splendid report on the attack of the republican exèrcit by Aitona and the area from Serrabrisa to Baix Segre. A daring photographer who is both going to establish himself as one of the millions.
Two categories are established according to the areas that we consider essential and necessary to keep the memory alive. The historical investigation from different points of view: journalistic, documentary..., the journalistic or scientific research with the dissemination of continguts related to the Segre Front especially on the Civil War and its effects on Catalonia in general and the image: photographs that identify conflictive elements with a reflex of cruel war and its effects on the societat.
