The new route “Robert Capa to Aitona” begins to reach the first visitors

The journey lasts for one kilometer and includes 11 points senyalitzats on displaying the photographs that Robert Capa takes in the countries of Aitona. At the beginning of the route there are also four panels on displaying the figure of the photojournalist and his country in the municipality.

This day, November 21, the City Council has publicly presented “Robert Capa to Aitona”, the new route of discovery of the landscape and historical heritage of the municipality that this 2021 promotes the consistory with the objective of continuing to follow the project of Fruitruisme de nou contingut.

The inauguration ceremony has been announced by the mayor of Aitona, Rosa Pujol; Joan Talarn, president of the Lleida Provincial Council; Estefania Rufach, vice president of the Institute of Ilerdencs Studies; Montserrat Messeguer, director of the Territorial Services of the Department of Justice in Lleida; members of the municipal consistori; and mayors of the area. The route, moreover, has been presented by Pol Galitó, a student of the Spanish Civil War; i Joan Ramón González, route coordinator.

Rosa Pujol values the beginning of the project very positively and explains that “This new route, which is the fruit of the work of many people and institutions that will benefit the involvement, represents one more step in the consolidation of Aitona as one of the tourist destinations ”and more projection and action of all our territory.”.

The route is free to travel and there is also the possibility of arranging guided visits with local guides.

What does the “Robert Capa Route” consist of?

The new route “Robert Capa to Aitona” covers a distance of prop d'un kilòmetre for the environment of Aitona and consists of a total of’eleven stations. In each crib they have enabled information panel in different languages (Catalan, Spanish, Aranese, English and French) with a detailed explanation of the passes of the photojournalist Ernö Friedmann - associated with the pseudonym Robert Capa - by Aitona on November 7, 1938. At the beginning of the route, moreover, there are also four panels on this talk of the figure of Robert Capa and the origin of the six photographs.

Robert Capa will photographically document the Offensive dart of the republican exèrcit to Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War, which intended to arrive at Fraga and facilitate the withdrawal of the troops that had been carrying flying wind to the Ebre since July 25. The attack will have various locations in La Serrabrisa as a stage and will be forcefully repelled by Francoist troops.
