The Fruiturisme project proposal allows participants to discover firsthand the work of producers, enjoy the agricultural landscape and taste local products at a farmers' breakfast
The Aitona Town Council and Fruiturisme are holding another edition of their peach, nectarine, and flat peach harvesting experience this weekend. This initiative, held in two sessions (one on Saturday, July 4th, and the other on Sunday, July 5th), has brought together around fifty people from across Catalonia to experience firsthand the work in the municipality's fruit orchards. The activity allows participants to explore a farm in Aitona and harvest some of summer's most iconic fruits directly from the trees. Accompanied by the growers, visitors learn about the characteristics of each variety, the cultivation process, and the work involved in each harvest.
Each harvest day ends with a traditional Catalan breakfast featuring local products, including bread from Forn Antolí, sausages from Cal Patenis, chocolate from Pangea, juices from Cal Kika, wines from Raimat, Tabollet cheese from Formatges Montllobé, and oils from Benjamí Camí and Serra Brisa, highlighting the quality of the region's agricultural products.
The third deputy mayor of Aitona, Eduard Martín, emphasizes that “these experiences allow you to discover fruit in a completely different way. When someone picks it directly from the tree and learns firsthand about the work of our farmers, they understand the value and the effort behind each piece and establish a much deeper connection with the land.”.
Martín also points out that “Fruiturisme has become a promotional tool that goes far beyond the flowering season. It allows us to showcase our landscape year-round, support the agricultural sector, and offer authentic experiences that can only be found in Aitona. The positive response from visitors encourages us to continue expanding this offering linked to the agricultural calendar.”.
Harvest experiences are part of the annual program of the Fruiturisme project, which, after the flowering season, continues to offer activities linked to the different stages of the fruit cycle. This initiative helps diversify the municipality's tourism offerings and reinforces Aitona's position as a leading destination for experiential tourism focused on landscape, agriculture, and gastronomy.
